Subnetting Overview

32-bit dotted decimal

• Other formats are commonly used

– Decimal value in the first octet determines the class

of the address

• 001 - 126 = Class A

• 128 - 191 = Class B

• 192 - 223 = Class C

• 224 - 239 = Class D

• 240 - 254 = Class E
