Known Problems and Work-Arounds
5967–4358 39
RMON Utilities, Agent Administration
Description Agent Authentication silently allows you delete last allowed IP
address for level-4 community string, preventing further
changes to probe configuration
Details In Agent Authentication, if you delete the last allowed IP address for the
last level-4 community string, you will not be able to perform any func-
tions on the agent that require level-4 access (including changing the
authentication) until you cold-start the agent to reset the community
strings.
Work-Around Take care when changing the allowed IP addresses for any level-4
community string. In particular, ensure that you will continue to have
level-4 access to the agent once your changes have been made.
Description Creating or modifying an alarm on a Cisco Catalyst 5000 switch
sometimes fails
Details In some cases, the Catalyst switch erroneously returns noSuchName
errors when attempting to create or modify an RMON alarm.
Work-Around Pressing the Apply and Reload buttons in the Alarms application one or
more times may clear up the problem.
Description LanProbe IP Address Tracking may reject a valid MAC address
Symptom Error message indicating, “bad hexadecimal number.”
Details Ethernet MAC addresses that can be converted to ASCII characters
result in this error message. For example, the address is 525252404040
results in the error because 52 and 40 can both be converted to ASCII
characters. In most cases, you will see this problem only if a device is
transmitting a bad MAC address (or a traffic generator is transmitting
such addresses).
Work-Around Ensure that all devices on the network are transmitting proper MAC
addresses. If you still have problems, save the IP Address Tracking table
and contact your HP support representative.
